Smoothies!

Frequently folks ask me about smoothies and if they are healthy and good to eat. They are often tauted by mainstream chains to be superhealth foods. I think this CAN be true but isn't always. It depends on your chosen ingredients, how often you eat them, and for what purpose, ie snack versus meal replacement. Here is what I recommend:
Use fresh or frozen fruit of any kind (berries, bananas, peaches, mango)
I typically just add ice if I use fresh fruit and leave it out if I use frozen fruit.
For creaminess; plain yogurt, kefir, or plain Greek yogurt
Milk (if desired)
Blend and enjoy. This should be for snack only after vigorous exercise (like hiking) or can be eating as main component of lunch or breakfast.
Add-ins I also like: flax meal, oats, nut butters, cacao nibs, or honey if needed for desired sweetness. I find typically that the fruit itself is sweet enough.
