This is a summary of an article I recently read in Eating Well magazine by Rachel Johnson, Ph.D. MPH, RD. 
We all know that drinking too many sodas and other sugar-sweetened drinks are bad for your waistline, new research shows it may be bad for your 
blood pressure as well. The journal 
Hypertension reported in a study of 3,000 people that those who drank more than one serving of sugar-sweetened beverage daily had signficantly higher blood pressure than those who drank one or less daily. In 2010 
Circulation, another journal, reported a study with 810 people that a reduced intake of sugar-sweetened beverages lowered blood pressure over 18 months. 
The recent change in the USDA's Dietary Guidelines reflects this recommendation stating "drink water instead of sugary drinks". I couldn't agree more. Remember this also includes "diet" sodas and sweetened beverages.
